The first Exedra Bulgarica was held in 2025 under the title “Histories and Interpretations: Res et Verba” and had participants from five countries – Bulgaria, Argentina, Italy, Mexico, and the Netherlands. A variety of classes were held on authors such as Aeschylus, Virgil, Sallust, Aristophanes, Gregory Antiochos. The texts that were read lent themselves to discussion regarding the fine line between what truly happens (res) and how it is described in writing (verba) together with the inevitable distortion of real events that occurs as a result of this process in historical and fictional literature and the possible causes that may be behind this deformation of truth. Students had the opportunity to converse in Latin and Ancient Greek, get to know Bulgaria’s ties with its past, and visit a number of museums and ancient sites in Sofia and Plovdiv.
