We invite you to join the Forum Novum Foundation and Rogerus Byzantinus at the second Exedra Bulgarica, a summer gathering for intermediate and advanced students and speakers of Latin and Ancient Greek, which will be held from the 8th to the 16th of August in Sofia, Bulgaria. In antiquity, exedra or ἐξέδρα was a place where people of learning would come together to engage in discussions on various topics. The topic of this second gathering of ours will be “Fontes et Interpretamenta: Sources and Interpretations”, through which we will be able to explore the ways in which authors have borrowed topics, style, and concepts from earlier times and  writers and alluded to them in their own writings, thereby reflecting both ideas and ideals from the past. We will discuss the ways in which later authors have these allusions and how such connections with the past, be they philosophical, historical, or literary, benefit the present. Thus, the main objectives of this event are to converse in Latin and Ancient Greek with each other and with the authors, thereby enhancing our knowledge of both languages and discussing questions that continue to be relevant to this day. Furthermore, we will have the opportunity to use the unique example of Bulgaria and its past when addressing these questions.
